Unreal Outpost is a newsletter about Unreal Engine, written and sent by one person. This page explains what happens to your data. It is short, because very little happens to it.

What I collect

If you subscribe, I collect your email address, and your name if you choose to give one. Everyone on the list asked to be there and confirmed it by clicking a link in a confirmation email.

The newsletter system also records whether you are currently subscribed, and basic engagement data for each issue: whether it was delivered, whether it was opened, and whether any links were clicked.

How I use it

Your email address is used to send you the newsletter. That is all it is for.

Engagement data tells me which issues are worth reading and whether the emails are arriving at all, which is the only way to tell a quiet week apart from a delivery problem.

Where it lives

The newsletter runs on Ghost, which I host myself on a server in the United States. Your details sit in that system rather than in a third-party mailing platform.

The emails themselves are sent through Amazon SES, part of Amazon Web Services. Delivering a message means handing Amazon the address it is going to, so that is the one place your address travels to.

Analytics

The website uses Umami, an analytics tool I also host myself, at stats.unrealoutpost.com. It is cookieless and privacy focused. It counts page views and where visitors arrived from. It does not follow you around other websites, and the numbers are not shared with anyone.

What I never do

I do not sell or rent your data. I do not hand it to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else who wants to market to you. There is no advertising and no cross-site tracking on the site or in the emails.

Unsubscribing

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, plus the one-click unsubscribe headers your mail app can use. Either one takes effect immediately. You do not have to ask me first, and nothing asks you why.

Deleting your data

Ask and I will delete your record outright, address and engagement history together. One email is enough.
